One of the most beautiful things I have read. There's nostalgia here, but it's sprinkled with grace and appreciation for:

Love we have

Those we have loved

Life and the life of our children

Our beautiful animals

It sings to me.

Wishing you and Julie and the pups a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I wish you and Julie could come over to my sisters. It’d be incredibly healing to have people at the table who I know feel this kind of duality —pain and strange blessings—as deeply as I am. Thanks for writing this.

This year is hard hard hard. It makes my gratitude for friends like you root in deeper. Sending you 4 big love ❤️

A beautiful piece, and I love knowing your kids now gather in alternating spaces. Yes, both things can be true, and many of us share that feeling and awareness today and every day. I think our grief, our loss, and our sadness add texture to gratitude. You may not have received invitations …. (I don’t think most people do.) But you have someone bringing food because she sees and cares… really beautiful. I hope the day is peaceful.

When I read your pieces, and you write about your mom, your kids, your life, it’s like you are speaking to me of the same things I feel. My kids are away, my mom is gone (nearly the same time as your mom). My mom loved to shop at CB too.

Thanksgiving will never be the same without our mothers.

Happy Thanksgiving to you. Guess we have to make our own little Holiday Tribes and celebrate new things in our lives.

This is so touching, and heartfelt. And bittersweet, and sad.

All of these things, they too can be true at once.

Having a heart open enough to keep space, the resilience to take a breath, and hold on tight, is a blessing, isn’t it.

Wishing you peace on your journey.

A heartfelt piece, Katrina. Yes, the mystery of living within the paradox of two or more things being true at once. I hear you on that. Please pat your pups... We had to say good-bye to Zuke, on the 27th. We are shattered into a million different pieces, and SO immensely grateful for the LOVE this little guy gave us for fourteen and a half years. He IS sorely missed as I know you can understand. Deepest of sighs... 💔🐾
