Katrina, clearly, you are nothing more than a knee with an underperforming human attached. Stop expecting to be treated as more than that and you will be just fine.
And I love that your sister has to hold you back! That's a great image. Believe it or not, Carrie was the fighter in our family. I was when I was little, but as an adult, she found her voice... and her fight. :)
Thank you, Michele. Yes, she is definitely a crappy human--or at least she was yesterday. I feel strong and encouraged with this amazing Substack army behind me. XO
UGH!! I love how many in the medical community think that the rules of basic human decency, manners and, oh I don’t know, PROFESSIONALISM don’t apply to them. This is not okay in any way, shape or form and I’m sorry you were subjected to it. 😡
Thanks, friend. She definitely created one of the worst medical experiences I've had. I'm pretty sure you shouldn't leave a follow-up appointment crying both in pain and in embarrassment. I'll make sure the practice knows about it when all is said and done. XO
Just who TF does she think she is? You’re a grown ass woman who’s been through way too many fires in life to be treated like a petulant child. I am so angry with you! I think after you crush this goal and “graduate,” you should definitely send a pointed letter to her or to the head of the practice. Not letting you know the rules of engagement ahead of the surgery was a huge blunder on their part.
Thank you for this, Amy. You're right--she definitely gave the "disappointed parent" vibe. I was both in pain and ashamed when I left, and I'm pretty sure that's not how a follow-up appointment is supposed to go. I will definitely let the practice know about this experience once that particular PA no longer has access to my knee!
This just fires me up in the worst of ways. OY!!! You hit it when you said this is what they do all day long day after day and this was your FIRST rodeo. This is on them 100% and their lack of clear post op instructions. Please let us know how you are navigating this and doing. It is never okay nor warranted to be a bully and that is what this encounter felt like to me. Yes, Jodi's recommendation is right and there are people in the hospital that need to know about this because yes, YOU are not the only one being treated and spoken to like this. I'm so sorry this happened to you, Katrina. Healing hugs from Zuke and me you. 🐾💜
Thank you, Joanie. I'm in a crazy amount of pain today. I don't know if she succeeded in doing her own "manipulation" yesterday, but I can barely walk today. She was definitely a bully. I have PT this afternoon, and I will be sure to discuss the situation with them to see what kind of instructions they received from my surgeon. And you're right--I know I'm not the only one. When all of this is over, that practice will definitely hear about this experience. Hopefully, no one else will have to go through it then. Thanks for the love, and please thank Zuke, too. XO
I am SO sorry, Katrina. This is unacceptable! I'd be inclined to request to not see her again, at least not alone. (I suspect she would be more polite/restrained if her supervising physician was present.) I'd also follow up with a letter to the practice manager. These are the recs I routinely give my patients when they have a bad experience. You are very likely not the only one this is happening to, but you can be part of the solution at changing it for future patients ❤️
Not seeing her alone is great advice, Jodi. Julie was with me, and she was appalled by what happened, but no one else from the practice was there. I will definitely write a letter when that PA no longer has access to my knee! XO
That PA sounds like an a-hole (I actually don't mind using the word asshole, but I'm trying to be polite.) Don't forget, your PT knows you're doing a good job and you are. And I love the thought of you beating her at Pickleball! I think that's your image mantra! ♥️
She was an Asshole with a capital A. I'm going to keep looking at her picture on the website and imagine myself smashing her to pieces in pickleball. :) XO
Arghhhh!!! I’d really like to show her how far I can bend my knee into her face. Rudeness like that makes me beyond angry. I’m so sorry you were treated that way. “Tough love” my ass. She’s just callous with a bedside manner of an amoeba. And an amoeba would probably be nicer!
Haha! I'm loving the image of your knee in her face! She really was a horrible person. I imagine she doesn't have a very happy life. On their website, she's listed as a "compassionate" caregiver. HAHAHA!! Talk about "fake news." XO

HAHAHA! I just need to accept the truth.
Should I invite your PA to read this? 🤣
I would be so HOT!
I’m the fighter. My sister always has to grab me before I go headfirst into the line of fire.
I'll give her a copy when we play pickleball. ;)

That is terrible bedside manner and just plain being a crappy human. I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Keep healing and keep fighting.

Wow. I’m really sorry that happened to you. What’s her name? I just wanna talk… 😡
Ha! I'd love for you to "talk" to her. All bets are on you. I hope you're feeling better! XO

I realized saying “I’m so angry with you!” was terrible wording on my part; I meant I am angry along with you!

Oh no! I'm so sorry!
Thanks, Tracy. XO

🙄🙄🙄 so “compassionate” means being an asshole in her world 🙄🙄🙄 totally fake news! Xoxo
