I love how you expressed motherhood as your greatest success and your greatest sadness. It's true. Mother's Day stirs up all sorts of emotions. Nostalgia. Sentimentality. Regret. Grief. All of these are present when we consider a mother's love: love for our own mothers, love for our kids.
I just want you to know I hear what you wrote today. I see you. I send my heart to you this day. ❤️
I love this perspective -- my gender-fluid kid (33) lives six hours across the state, and I have only seen them twice since the pandemic. Sometimes I feel less like someone's mother than the women I know who can get their grown kids to come together for matching pajama shots every Christmas. But mine wouldn't have worn matching PJs anyway! When I was growing up (I'm 57 this week), my expectation was that people moved out into the world from their childhood homes, but I see a renewed kind of emphasis just on traditional family, and it does make me second guess. And also makes my heart squeeze. Happy Mother's Day!
I think families can be beautiful in so many ways, but I still get caught up in the "traditional family" ideal as portrayed in the media. And my kids wouldn't have worn matching PJs, either. Hugs!
Gentle care with all your heart squeezes that you are allowing a full breadth of expression. Always this kind of sharing helps me to not feel so alone in the depth of my own feelings. Thank you. I am sharing from Sarah Blondin~ "Bring serenity where there is impatience. Bring tempo, bring swing where is arrhythmia. Where resistance exists, subdue it. When confusion arises, temper it with candour. In places dull, sparking ingenuity bright. Where it is ungrounded, spring rhizome, tuber stock. Where love is lacking, bring ardent devotion. In the place of fear, call forth absolute validation and mirth. In complexities and nuances, meticulous care. Where there is distance, division, separation, contempt, Ring a bell, regain consciousness. Bring thunderclouds steady feet to where I am. Bring a Big-mind, Sky-Mind. Heart-mind. Give me my bearings, my bond, with vital spark. Gently rock this body on the lake of its life. Show her how to swim." An offering for us all today. 💜✨
