This is AMAZING, Katrina! So many great takeaways here. I was super interested because I sent a brief pitch to HuffPo personal about a month ago and never heard back. It wasn’t an essay - just a paragraph or two on my proposed idea. Do you think that’s the wrong approach?

Congratulations! I can’t wait to read both essays (I’m sure #1 will be picked up!).

Thanks, Amy! I'm sorry you didn't hear back from HuffPo. My pitch was super short--maybe try to cut yours back a bit? I know you have a great story to tell, and I also know those editors are slammed with pitches. I would definitely try again! XO

Great advice - thanks! Brevity is not my strong suit 🥴

I hear you! That's why I admire poets so much. Word economy. It's not one of my strengths.

I worked with Noah a few years ago and had a very similar experience. He is a dream. So kind and encouraging and honest. Congratulations on getting your piece published. I can't wait to read it!

Loved this piece, Katrina. I often find there's so much more to be learned from the rejections, than the acceptances even if they sting in the moment. Thank you for generously sharing your experiences with us. I'm looking forward to seeing the essay in print!
