What a whirlwind ride that essay was. I wonder if those coaches, teachers, etc have any idea the impact their statements make both good and bad. I have been writing about memory. It’s a theme I seem to always return especially growing up. It’s like a sock drawer pull out one and see if it has a mate.
I also graduated in 1988! I really love your stories Katrina. Thanks.
It's amazing what sticks with us, isn't it? I remember the bad, but I also remember the good -- like the ones who encouraged me to write and sing. Here's to the class of '88! :)
So many heart threads contained within this piece dear Katrina. Thank goodness for our best pals who hold up a mirror, and with whom we can share. Deanna is that for you, and both of you picking right back up where you left off. Sifting and sorting in real time, and hearing one another's perspectives is always so fascinating. What remains within our heart memory forever. Loving and gentle care to yours always. Xo💜
I do love experiencing different perspectives. I've been digging into my mom's history lately -- trying to learn and know her as a human instead of just my mother. <3
This just makes me so mad and sad for you. I want to scream. I'm so glad you went back and spoke your piece. I hope he rots. I'm sorry. And I'm in awe of you, always. <3
Thanks, friend. It was enlightening, for sure, to think about how much lasting damage came from that whole effed up situation. It was good to write it out. It was a start, at least, to working my way to the other side. Better late than never. <3
Gosh, so raw and authentic, thanks Katrina
