I needed to hear a beautiful and kind story like this today, thank you! Also, my tomatoes are just coming in so please tell your friends I plan to make this tomato pie and take it to a neighbor :) Spreading tomato love in Salt Lake City!
Carly, I lived in SLC for over thirty years! Our last house was below the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Have many dear peeps who still live there. Just had to do a shout out your way. 🌻
Awwww, what a fantastic story! Ilove the friend sending the groceries. And the beauty of them not only still loving each other but also (and the much more difficult piece) being able to come together for a beautiful conversation on something they find themselves on opposite sides of— that’s huge these days.
Thank you for sharing.
PS. Adding the tomato pie recipe to my list of stuff to try soon.
YES❣️ Smiling all throughout reading this and feeling the kindness and connection. And yummy, just read the recipe and what's not to love about this tasty pie? Thank you all for the ripple effect of this wonderful sharing. XO 🍅😊
YES, Katrina! I LOVE hearing stories like these. The divisiveness and polarization on social media is a primary reason I got off all platforms. I couldn't stand how horrible people were to each other.
We all need to strive for honest, respectful conversations with others who differ from us, whether politically or religiously or whatever the case may be. There's so much more that we have in common than we realize.
Thank you for this. It warmed my heart today and restored my faith in humanity.
I want to get off social media, too, Jeannie, but I'm not quite ready to pull the plug yet. I get a little closer every day, though. Especially during an election cycle. Do you miss it at all, or do you feel you're better off without it? Anyway... I loved this story, too. It really moved me. I'm grateful Matt let me share it. XO
Oh, Katrina, it took me YEARS to fully let go of my social media. First I dropped Twitter/X, then Facebook, and finally Instagram and LinkedIn. I totally understand the process. In fact, I also completely respect people's choices to stay on, but I just personally couldn't deal with the daily dose of vitriol.
Do I miss it? Honestly, no. It was liberating to not know what everyone else was doing, what I was "supposed" to be doing, the constant pressure to post and perform and "build the platform."
I will admit it's frustrating when the ONLY means of a group (say, for school or a community event) posting is on a Facebook page. But it's not worth it for me to get back on. I've been off completely for almost 2 years with no plans to return. Not saying never, just not now.
Aw well this is just the sweetest! I'm the tomato pie friend (and the recipe is from my dear old high school friend and uber talented chef, Vivian Howard.) I love that the simple act of sending groceries because I wanted to share something good with my friend would have a ripple effect to encourage others. Mostly for me, at the end of the day I think it matters so much that we remember to love one another well as humans. It's core to my faith and core to who I am. I think when the world wants us to all pick sides against one another, it matters most that we remember how much more important it is to love each other than it is to try to be right. Tomato pie and loving people well for the win!
I was so moved by your kind and generous act, Logan. And I loved that Matt and Chris just jumped right in! It was such a sweet, special story, and I was so inspired to share it. Hooray for love and kindness! XO

Hooray!! I’ll tell Matt for sure. ❤️

Umm, yeah. You ARE that kind of friend. I haven't even met you in person (yet!) and I know that. xo
XOXOXO

Yes! I love that the whole interaction started because she wanted to understand the “other side” a little bit better. 💙

Hope that helps!
I'm off Twitter and LinkedIn. Both of those felt good. The rest will come someday, I think. I feel like I'm weaning myself off slowly. :)
